So the glory hole is basically the reheating furnace, kinda like the propane forges metalworkers use nowadays. It’s got a hinged stone door with a hole in either piece so you can size it to your glass piece being worked on. How it got taken by gay people to mean the thing you cut out of a bathroom stall divider is beyond me actually
I would not be surprised if there was an overlap between gay people and glass workers big enough for the phrase to catch on as an inside joke.
