I definitely encourage people who are willing to try Linux to... try. There's people out there willing to help you figure it out! Check the chosts I just rechosted for a few people offering! You don't even gotta get rid of Windows to try it out!
That said, while Linux is doing so much better nowadays, the right distros are perfectly fine and usable for most laypeople.... it's also not exactly perfect. There's a switchover from an ooooooold technology called X11 to a much newer, more secure, and better technology called Wayland happening right now. It's been pretty smooth, but there's definitely some hiccups. Proton works for most games just fine... but there's definitely games that don't work. Power users are likely to run into more issues.
But if you have the time, it is worth at least giving it a try with the guidance of a veteran Linux user. Proprietary OSes do have the advantage of huge amounts of cash behind them to push development, but Linux has the advantage of not being subject to stupid corporate bullshit like shoving AI spyware into your system and monitoring everything you do
