A piece I did back in September. I like, never finish art let alone attempt a more rendered/lineless style so this was a big leap for me.
I decided after doing the basic doodle to impulsively take this piece seriously so it has some issues, mainly the way the hands are pointing in different directions drawing the viewers eyes all over the place.
I had a lot of fun doing this style though!! You can see it in the head but I was studying Harada for this piece. I realized that if I wanted to improve my painting I can't just absorb it passively, I gotta crack open references of what I want to aim for and actually learn as I go, so I did exactly that. Cracked open (aka tracked down a totally legal scanned copy) of Harada's Art Works 1 and stared that bitch down as I went. I gained a lot of art levels this way baby!!!!
I tried to keep an eye on values as I went here as well. Between this and the Mimi piece I did afterwards I feel I learned a good amount versus the photo studies I used to do. Like ohhhhh red is always a darker value even if it's max saturation I see I see <-- taking notes.
This sketch was originally just a Jaune doodle but it evolved into a cute mage girl when I couldn't get it right. I'm sorry Jaune...
ANYHOW, I'M REALLY PROUD OF THIS PIECE. Working with a lineless style is also forcing me to attempt more backgrounds too. It's.... it's a work in progress. I'm trying!!
