2 Potato Flowers in Full Bloom 1/5/2024

A short and fresh dungeon crawler. I feel like near the end I was able to start steamrolling things by just freezing things and then stoning them while buffing the caster but it was definitely fun to do anyways. It's a bit... lumpy, for lack of a better word, but pretty charming nonetheless.

I feel like my habit of playing whoever the non-standard protagonists in these games is keeps giving me the characters who are easiest to win with. Still though, this is an absolutely brutal Touhou game. I'm glad ZUN went with pointdevice mode as a focus. I'm a little less glad that neither it nor spell practice are available for the extra stage though. This might just end up one I never end up doing in any fashion...

One of my friends has been going through it for the first time recently, so I couldn't help but fire it up again. Undoubtably the best metroidvania ever made in my heart. I did the "All I Need is One Finger!" challenge on this run too, and it was surprising to me how much I retained from the last time I did it considering I first beat this game a decade ago...

This show was fun but really kind of fell apart for a while in the back half. Crona and Maka are good.

Damn that Shion timeout card was not very fun. I have again only done the story mode which is just scratching the surface of a fighting game but I'm simply not very invested in getting good at them. I love Dream Tenshi's rant at the end.

8 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge 3/8/2024

I'm not really an RTS person but this game is brilliant. Played both campaigns for both base game and Yuri's Revenge. Aside from some missions that were a bit too strict on keeping a single unit alive they were a lot of fun, and I ended up enjoying the game enough I did several hours of skirmishes after... I originally played this game as a kid, but I didn't really remember all that much, and I probably didn't actually beat the campaigns, so I'm glad to have done it now.

9 Sousou no Frieren 3/22/2024

Most of this series is an easy slam dunk but the pacing kind of took a pretty big hit for the magic exam and I kind of don't like very much how demons are just universally evil when combined with them finding it difficult to understand humans.

This marks my first time ever watching through something wholly in Japanese... I'm not very good at it, but I cried a lot for the last few hours. It was all worth it.

feels like it's been a bit since i watched a show where aoi yuuki voiced the main character. i don't have a lot to say about this one, it's pretty high values but i'm bad at digesting stories about intrigue like this. it was definitely good but not quite in my wheelhouse.

It was alright. The vampire girl is peak character design. Apparently by the same author as Maoujou de Oyasumi, but I liked that one a lot more.

I like it when girls are overpowered. Yumiella is a fun character, the rest of the show was kind of whatever.

This year's anime is coming out with a strong contender for my favorite right out the door. I think this the first straight up NSFW yuri anime I've watched but I have strong doubts anything else that fits those words is going to top it, ever. Utena was so based for locking two girls into a room together and not letting them out until they kiss.

I kind of liked how this was an isekai where the isekai'd person just kind of existed in a plural state with the person they reincarnated into. Also it's very funny that her conception of value is how many rats something is equivalent to.

This is probably the most CGDCT anime I've watched in a long while. At least I learned a slight bit more about Mahjong...? Oh, and this show knows that good character design is just making all your girls stacked.

18 Shangri-La Frontier 3/31/2024

Picked it up because the MC design was goofy, stayed for the absolutely awfully designed MMO. There are some actual things of value in here too though, I like how this show about playing a game actually had a few other games show up here and there, and the 2 minute long blacksmithing rabbit song was pretty cool. I'd say it is a bit of mixed bag though.

20 ZQuest Classic: Lost Isle 5/10/2024

One of the big quests when it comes to older ZC stuff, and I gotta say, it sure doesn't live up to those expectations. Some things are cool about it -- I really warmed up to the 24x16 overworld eventually, the graphic design in general for screens is really well done, and especially for its time Level 2's gimmick is pretty impressive. And I love the throughly drawn dungeon maps! But it's an old-school quest through and through, which means a lot of annoyances like pitfalls that have to be navigated with Z1's movement (not very good for this), and it sure spams the hell out of Like Likes (resprited to wallmaster in this quest) and other pretty durable enemies.

It was pretty alright. I liked Presia. Tales games are always just a tad bit longer than I want them to be though.

22 7th Dragon 6/18/2024

Very unique RPG. I don't think I can really recommend it to a lot of people, but there's no RPG like it, especially with its dedication to rewarding the player for exploration. I rotated one of each class for the whole game. Will probably do the postgame at some point.
