I get that the site needs money and all but i'm not sure how i feel about. you know. jumping ship from a website were people begged people to save tumblr by buying shitty merch only to find people wanting to save this website by also buying merch. Allegedly this website has like two weeks left in it unless they somehow secure funding for another month.

Like i do enjoy this site and i wanted to get more into it but i can’t help but feel incredibly cynical about claims and promises that this site will be different you know?

fwiw the most likely bad scenario imo, where they effectively lay off their dev staff but keep the lights on until/unless their situation changes, is basically also where tumblr has been for months since they did their big layoffs, and kind of the status quo for indie social sites (which is what they mean when they say they're maintained by "volunteer labor"). It just stings more here because of all the missing features that it'd be nice to have (and also the unsaid ideological premise that people should be paid for their labor, which is, in the end, ideological).

merch is explicitly excluded in their calculations (making payroll with merch is very risky business), but it's not like it doesn't help ig
