i think it kind of sucks that in the 1900s the idea of "folk music" got coopted by major artists to just be "music I own a copyright on and can stop you from playing/covering and it's controlled by a record label... but it's acoustic" instead of music that is inherently communal, shared freely, a mix of the very old and the constantly new
