The Count, whose controversial decision to leave the Jedi order and lead the Separatist forces in open war against the Rebellion, leaves behind a complicated legacy in Galactic politics.

Few Jedi have been both celebrated and reviled with such passion as Count Dooku. Considered the most powerful former Jedi in the late Old Republic era, he was by turns hailed as an ultrarealist who reshaped diplomacy to reflect Separatist interests and denounced as having abandoned Jedi values, particularly in the arena of human rights, if he thought it served the Sith's purposes.

He died on Thursday in a Jedi-involved decapitation.
