love too spent 4 hours trying to figure out if my display is hooked up to my arduino right only to find out the answer is "yes, but the devs of the wire library decided to hardcode it so it always pulls the i2c pins up to 5v for reasons known to basically no one and the only solutions are to hack the library or switch the pins back off after initialisation and hope the logic level being too high for a split second doesnt fry the display"
