My brother and I got in a game of Kill Team today. Everything was painted for once, even the terrain! We played Mission 1.2 out of the Octarius set, where teams scramble to dig a hidden archeotech relic and other valuable salvage out of piles of scrap. Game notes below the cut.

An early showdown between Charlie Foxgrot and an Intercessor Gunner went real poorly. Foxgrot took some nasty hits from the IG's combat blade and barely scratched his opponent. He remained wounded for most of the game, necessitating that I keep him further back than I would like. Turns out the Ork loses this engagement!

After having to call in backup from one of his goons to finish the gunner, another Intercessor found the archeotech almost immediately! His first priority, much to my chagrin, is to bag it and run. Never underestimate mission-specific equipment, it can help!

The tide began to turn for the Intercession Squad shortly after - my Snipa Boy, Awpon da Long, made a magnificent shot across the map to aerate an Assault Intercessor's skull and prevent a devastating charge to my support unit! POV: Awpon about to notch another one on his rifle

Turning Point 3 saw the Intercessor Squad attempt to consolidate their forces and charge from the flank, keeping their relic-carrier safe and ready to score his 3VP at the end of the game. Unfortunately, two of them grouped up too close to my Bomb Squig, Eeko (da round). Hilariously, my Snipa Boy was marked as my Marksman for Tac Op purposes, but Eeko managed to top him in kills.

Doppla da 'Spensiv, my Slasha Boy, was out of position for most of the game after the Intercessor Squad refused the flank he was on entirely, so he spent the better part of the game digging spare parts out of the ground and wind-sprinting towards the enemy. Unfortunately, the first hostile he crossed blades with was the Assault Sergeant, who had zero reasons to fear Doppla's knives - regardless of how expensive they were on BitSkins. Alas, poor Doppla. Felled by a marine with a default knife skin!

Ultimately, the Kommandos did win the day - despite the Marines making off with the Archeotech, the Kounta-Krumpaz made off with enough valuable salvage to counter whatever advantage the Intercessors had gained, and the team's Infiltration Grot (not pictured) was successfully inserted behind enemy lines to plot, steal, and spy. The grot is on the other side of the map, and scored more VP for me than every other ork. He wouldn't have it any other way!

Things we learned:

  • Intercessors can absolutely 1v1 a Kommando. If you want to beat them, don't play to their strengths! Shoot their assault units to death, and tie up their gunners in CQC.
  • Intercessors want to use their fight/shoot twice ability as often as possible. Don't commit a marine to a fight unless it's tactically vital or you're getting good value out of it!
  • Breacha Boyz, while extremely funny to use, don't actually do as much damage as you'd hope. Most of the time they will not kill an Intercessor in a straight fight, and if his opponent has a chainsword, he will die. RIP, Hi-Speed. You will be missed.

We're still learning the ropes - questions about line-of-sight, equipment, and tactical ploys remain to be answered, but the game is a blast. I'd welcome tips on how to run Intercessors or Kommandos if you have them!
