What's the era that's going to put Peppino down, though? The Hanna Barbanime of Powerpuff Girls/Dexter's Laboratory? Maybe that's too close still; it could also be the glut of mediocre adult animation spawned by Family Guy, or if we need to stick to children's animation, the sardonic toddlers that comprise the cast of Teen Titans Go. (This is about when I fell off watching cartoons all the time.)
I think cartoons that emphasize personal growth as a source of power would be a nice thematic counter.
