A fanatical Deathwatch intercession squad assaulted the ramshackle base of the Kounta-Krumpaz, attempting to assassinate their brutal chief before he can complete his plans to further disrupt Imperial operations in the area. Notes about the game under the cut!

The game would end with the Deathwatch taking home the victory, 15-4. There were some good plays from the Ork Kommandos, but knowing their tricks blunts the danger they present. The Breacha Boy did the Breacha Boy thing, for example - busting through the wall like a fungal kool-aid man. I recall doing that exact same thing when the situation was reversed, against the exact same opponent! In both cases, the Breacha Boy rolled three twos, only to be immediately murdered in turn.

The flanks were rolled up by intercessor bolter fire, blunting the Kommandos' ranged options. An assault intercessor was used as a sacrifice to bait out the bomb squig, dying so his grenadier brother could plant a pair of krak grenades in the Nob's chest. Orks being orks, two anti-tank shaped charges erupting in his torso was not quite enough to kill him! He would also survive a round of plasma fire from my Sergeant, much to the shame of the Deathwatch squad. Finally, a bolt pistol round to the dome would secure 9 VP for the Astartes and seal up the game in my favor.

I might do a profile on the Kommandos one of these days in the vein of my Kriegposting series, even if it means my fellow Kommando players lose some elements of surprise. Part of the issue is that Kommandos, despite their thematic elements, are not a sledgehammer force in the way the Intercessors are. You must adapt your force to both mission and opponent, constantly on the lookout for cheap shots and unaware opponents. The intercesssors, by contrast, very much are a sledgehammer. The most difficult decision an Intercessor player has to make is what Doctrine to activate in a given turn, which is largely decided by whether or not you're going to shoot the enemy to death or saw them in two with chainswords.
