Sporting a bionic arm and even fewer shits to give than your average Korpsman, the Hardened Veteran is the final member of what I consider the Expendable Veterans - soldiers that exist to harass and delay the enemy, spending their lives to ensure the more important veterans can do their jobs.
I picked the colors for the ribbons entirely at random. No one is allowed to come at me for the order in which the medals are supposed to be displayed, I will cry. Notes about the model under the cut.
The Hardened Veteran, as alluded to above, is entirely expendable. Their lasgun is as sad as the Trooper Vet's, and while they do have a relatively hard-hitting melee with their bionic arm, having a hammer does not make one a carpenter. The Hardened Veteran's true value-add is their ability to shrug off damage and keep pushing - roughly 1/3 of the wounds coming to them can be shrugged off (assuming your dice aren't cursed) and they never take penalties to APL, meaning they're practically immune to stunning weapons.
There is a question to be raised about the model that is fun to explore - where did the Hardened Vet get those medals? The Death Korps doesn't give them out for any reason - suicidal bravery is the minimum effort expected on Krieg, slavish adherence to duty is commonplace, and no one in the Korps expects a reward for time served. My best guess is that this is one of the rare Krieg soldiers seconded to a non-Krieg force for a time, where their death-seeking behavior and absolute devotion to the chain of command read more like authentic courage and selflessness rather than the state-sanctioned mental sickness inherent to the Death Korps.
I like to imagine that some non-Krieg CO or a PDF pezzonovante gave the Hardened Vet medals for things they would have done anyway, and the Veteran bemusedly accepted the shiny bits of silk and metal. Later, the HVet's direct report would explain to them what medals are supposed to be for and that displaying them was considered an honor. None of their fellow Korpsmen understand the concept completely, but the weathered bionic arm says more to them than any trinket could.
