The child stepped into the ring of stones, and counted to twenty. They weren't sure how many more months they could keep coming to this clearing, waiting--

And then, emerging from the canopy like sylvan angels came those four fairies at long last. The child could hardly believe what they were seeing, almost falling out of the ring.

"Forgive us for our absence," the one in front said with a polite bow. "There were some... complications, but our preparations are complete at last. I must say, I'm pleased that you haven't forgotten."

"H, how could I?" the child said. "F, for so long th, this was all I had, had to hold onto. To, to hope for." Tears welled up in their eyes as they choked out, "I thought... m, maybe you had f, forgotten me..."

The fairy shook her head and smiled. Folding her arms and drifting closer to them, she said, "I understand your fear. It's true, after all, that there are many schemers and deceivers among the fey. But no matter how we weave our words, we are still bound. Such is our way, our magic. We would have never forgotten you. And now, you will always be with us."

The child could not stop their tears, their sobs. This was real. It had been so very long since there had been any comforting words, any care or love. To find it here, of all places, was a miracle.

"C'moooon, there's no need to cry anymore!" said the short-haired fairy, fluttering closer to the child. "Your cocoon is ready, and we've all been itching to meet our new sister!" She gestured to the clearing's edge behind her. "It's just a few more steps forward and a little bit more bravery! You can do this, I promise!!"
