commercial life is totally compatible with the idea of "cringe" in that so much of it is just the pseudo-morality of coming up with new punishments for pissy little etiquette transgressions anyway and ofc it has a space for "kitsch" as a sort of loveable/horrible sacred monster version of itself but idk if it can really tolerate the idea of the "corny", bc to call something corny is to sort of say that it can make all the right decisions - be a functional product with nothing obviously wrong with it, all the release cycle dice rolled ok, audience shrewdly identified and key features laid out in the the elevator pitch and etc - and still be felt to be inadequate, that making all the right decisions commercially IS to be inadequate. the forbidden idea of daylight between what's optimal for the market and real desire, the furious immediate "who are you to judge" whenever the latter rears its head. it feels like one of the big points of overlap between like market true believers and the various woolier forms of hustle guy is a deep feeling that it should be basically illegal to ever roll your eyes while somebody is explaining how your network is your net worth

something i find interesting about 4chan, in hindsight, is that for a self admitted community of basement dwelling losers, they're a very judgmental bunch. wear the wrong clothes, like the wrong games and anime, skimp on cosplay details, breach their very strange notions of etiquette, all cringeworthy. i credit my time their for me developing crippling perfectionism and anxiety about self-perception.
