I like to answer questions on r/blenderhelp because sometimes they help me come up with cool things myself. Someone asking about how to turn a procedural texture into geometry got me to experiment, and I made this by using the texture as an alpha mask and then stacking a couple hundred planes very densely. Separate out the height, run it through a color ramp to determine the color, and there you go.
