in reply to @PuddlesTheVaporeon's post:

he does a good job

also he is a surprisingly useful character with THAT default kit, which was always weird in the previous games where he was like

written like a barbarian EXCEPT when actively mentioning being a ranger
he sucked as a ranger in bg1 and 2 so there were mods turning him into barb lol

Important to note that in older editions of D&D pre-drizztification(though the purple twink was still around) Rangers were just "fighter but better" or "fighter with skills". There are multiple Rangers throughout D&D including Drizzts own ranger sensei, Moonshie who used a shield and wore armor. This is even true to a lesser extent today as Rangers in 5e still have medium armor and shield proficiency which works well with the Dueling style for sword and board. In Pathfinder the ranger has a more diverse style set which also includes two-handers.

Edit: The low wisdom is funny as hell though

Ah, Pf Ranger. Pf1e ranger was the first class I ever tried in a ttrpg. It wasn't bad, but I quickly moved away from it after using both a dual wielding ranger and a bow ranger, and haven't really visited it. It's probably my playstyle and personality, but I just...never felt like I was contributing that much to damage in a fight...
