it would be nice to be able to block a single original post of a thread so I don't have to see the same post and the ever-increasing thread of replies to it in my feed over and over again

peep the "collapse long threads by default" checkbox in the options
if you're comfortable with a userscript, there is also https://github.com/nex3/cohost-dedup/blob/main/cohost-dedup.user.js which is quite useful
Post this in the feature request forum then. Staff probably won't see random posts but they do read the support forum
