It feels so good to watch a good MCU story again! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 isn't perfect - Adam Warlock was just kind of there, and the film feels a bit over the place sometimes -, but it's a rewarding conclusion to what I consider the MCU's best trilogy, and an emotional goodbye to James Gunn and the world he has built with these characters.

I can't say I'm looking forward to seeing where the team will head next, but... hoping for the best!

[SPOILER]

So, what are the chances Mantis will get a series/solo film? That's one character I'd actually like to see in the spotlight. It was fun to see Mantis fighting at the beginning of the film, and I feel like there are some interesting things they could do with her character if she had the screen time. I mean... considering the MCU's current state, I'm not sure if I'd really want a Mantis solo journey, but... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Can we talk about how they hired like the ugliest man in Hollywood to play Adam Warlock? lol

I loved it on the whole! It's very poignant and heartfelt. Hard to watch though. The villain is just.... So vile. Capable of unfathomable cruelty.

My one complaint is a spoiler so watch out folks:

I did tired of fake out deaths. You can only do that once (MAYBE twice) before it loses its impact. It becomes tedious and annoying. I even saw some headline the other day about how we never saw the villain die, so he might still be alive. Despite the whole place exploding. If you don't want to kill character, that's totally fine! But don't do the fake out.

Well, I also have a 2nd complaint. It's just such a tired trope when the good guys will kill any number of nameless henchmen without hesitation. But they refuse to kill the leader of the bad guys, because that would make them bad somehow.

That might make me sound more down on the film than I am. It's really great. One of the top tier MCU films.

lol poor Will Poulter. He's... okay, I guess. He's a good actor too, but I don't think he's a good fit for Warlock.

I like how I could almost empathise with the High Evolutionary at the beginning of the film, but then... nope. He's vile, and a good villain for once!

Spoiler Ahead

I agree. And not only deaths, but some characters seem to take such a hit and then be completely fine the next scene. Drax is the greatest example. He was bleeding all over from Warlock's punches after the first fight, then he was fine a moment later. On that grotesque planet as well, he took two blasts to the back and appeared to be super defeated, but then nope! Up and running again.

Also agree with the trope. It's what in games we call "ludonarrative dissonance", I wonder if there's a similar term for films lol

But yeah, overall, it's one of the best. Proves that people aren't tired of superhero films, but of bad superhero films (and series).

That's pretty much how Drax is in the comics. It's nearly impossible to kill him and when he does get injured it's more of a inconvenience for him and he usually rebounds quickly.

Of course the movies never really explored that side of Drax or really developed him much outside of comic relief which is a shame.

From what I saw of Drax in the comics, that's true. But yeah, both he and Mantis are there for the comic relief and nothing much else, which was the trilogy's biggest crime imo. That's one of the reasons why I loved the Guardian's game. Eidos balanced the humour in Drax and Mantis a lot better than the MCU did.

2 had such a mess of a plot honestly 3's seemed pretty streamline (which was a good thing).

Probably my favourite of the trilogy. The original hasn't aged particularly well due to Marvel silliness now being rather cringe.

I remember really liking the first Guardians, not sure if my opinion would change if I rewatch it (for that reason, I will not rewatch it!). I had a good time with Vol. 2. I remember not liking it as much as the first, but it was nice.

I was a fan of the first one. Was in my "actually good Marvel movies*" list. But watching it again before 3... yeah, not so hot... The finale (dance-off) was fun then, but now with where we are with Marvel (aka screaming goats) it has that really dumb vibe to it. Marvel films have become such a parody of themselves it makes the older titles feel like a parody when going back to them.

Vol 2 was just... dumb. Like you just happen to bump into his dad randomly and the getting magic batteries thing. Just seemed like they were trying to cram too much in. I think I've seen it 3 times and I've liked it less every viewing.

*that list being: Iron Man, the Spider-Man films, Infinity War, Guardians 3.
