We finally got Ashrah's bio yesterday! Let's see what it says about my angelic demon baby:

Okay, so as the trailer indicated, the basic of Ashrah's character has been blessedly left untouched: she's a demon from the Netherrealm who's on this quest for spiritual purification with the aid of the Kriss (by the way, confirmed it's still a kriss!). In the trailer, Ashrah says that she has "purified most evil" from her soul, which is why she looks human.
But I wonder: is NRS might be hiding something? The real question here is: is the Kriss still the Datusha? Because if it is, it might have a huge influence on Ashrah's character development. If it's not... to be fair, it would take away some of the charm.
"Ashrah senses that her final absolution is near." I totally interpret that as "Nitara is nigh and the Datusha is starving for her oh-so-sweet blood!"
Also, an interesting detail here: Ashrah actually left the Netherrealm before finding the Kriss. So, she's not trapped there like before. And, as expected, her sisters didn't try to murder her on Quan Chi's orders since the Brotherhood of Shadows isn't a thing in the New Era. They did try to murder her, though. And from what I understood, Ashrah killed her sisters. It's not 100% confirmed, but I believe (hope) this debunks the theory that Kia/Jataaka/Sareena are her sisters. So, please NRS, explain who the hell are her sisters! xD
And, this might sound cruel, but if the Kriss truly is a holy blade this time, I hope Ashrah doesn't "enter the light." The dual nature is one of the things that makes Ashrah so fascinating! If the Datusha is still a thing as I believe, MK 1 might finally give Ashrah the opportunity to realise her mistake. And then we go back to another post I did a few days ago, in which I expressed my wish for Ashrah and Nitara to start off as rivals and become allies! If Sareena is in the story too, we could have a memorable, intertwined character arc between Ashrah, Nitara, and Sareena, with Ashrah coming to accept that purging her entire demonic nature is not only unnecessary but it might destroy her.
So many theories, so many possibilities!
