Is potato player their term for like, "idiot average player"? This is their target audience? Not surprised, then, that it sounds like a potato game.
Yup, that's it. And funny thing is that they use the "potato player" excuse wherever it suits then, but are quick to discard it when they want something more "complex" in art or whatever.
Oof! That sounds incredibly frustrating to work under. Morale must be terrible. I imagine it's going to feel so therapeutic killing off the PO's favourite character 😂
Hopefully they come to their senses and let you do your job.
It's not terrible (I think... I really only that with the GD) because most people there have gotten used to the mobile mindset of "let's chase money!" But yeah, they aren't happy. Ooooh, it's going to feel good, for sure!
In theory, they'll let me make more decisions after the FTUE. But now that the art has more influence on the story progression? I'm not confident...
It does sound like a mess.
I'd be down for a gritty Hello Kitty apocalypse though, but I gather your marketing team wouldn't be down for the kind of Happy Tree Friends-esque stuff I picture when writing that.
Good luck, I hope you all manage to push enough to make a game with some kind of vision other than targeting potatoes.
Definitely not lol They want the friendly, cute kind of Hello Kitty... during a zombie apocalypse... 😬
Thanks... guess we'll see what happens!
If I understand correctly the protagonist you wrote is a woman, and everybody knows girls are gross and you can't have them star in a videogame because they're gonna give cooties to anyone who plays! Gotta have either bald dude or nathan drake haircut dude
Oh, no, the protagonist has been a woman since before I joined the project (though they did consider changing her when they were told to restart the project). But they want the Joel dude (it's Joel's actually... zombie apocalypse after all, right?!) as the first secondary character the MC meets. Because they think that guy is going to make an impression. I swear, if you put his drawing alongside a few others, I wouldn't know which one is "ours"... 🤔
