I'm both embarrassed and sad that I clocked 262 hours in Mortal Kombat 1. Embarrassed because this game broke my entire love for the (official) MK story but I kept playing it because my heart is too weak, and sad because I was so sure I'd put in waaay more than 260 hours in it.

BG3 is already over 200 hours, and the way it's going, it might as well take first place next year. Five characters in, and I don't see myself stopping playing it anytime soon (maybe a break to play other things like GoW Valhalla, but not stop!)!

Mileena is actually... not terrible in the game. Like, I know you dislike the change to her nature, but that worked in the story. It makes in-universe sense and adds a reasonably good dose of conflict. Or it would add if the writer was at least decent. Dominic's problem is that he develops 5% of the cast and forgets everyone else. The only characters that were relatively good were Liu Kang, Shang Tsung, Johnny, Kenshi, Raiden, and Baraka (and then those last four are pretty much discarded in the last section of the story). The rest was either mediocre or outright bad. Mileena was mediocre. She, her sickness, or even her claim to the throne aren't explored in any depth at all. Hell, even her relationship with Kitana (or with Tanya) isn't explored. It's infuriatingly shallow.

Oh, yeah, DLC is basically confirmed at the end of the game. But it won't explore Mileena. It just won't. And I won't buy it anyway.

The idea of a new universe was good. The problem is that few things actually changed, and most of what changed was for the worst. To pull this "new era" thing off, MK would need an actual writer. Instead, they have a butcher on the team.

Funny enough, the gore disappointed me. Like... most Fatalities are boring. Havik's second one is a great example. Starts off great, and then it just... ends. The outfits are hit and miss, and the women suffered greatly. Why do all of them have the exact same bottom leg/open-toed heels design (funny enough, Ashrah is the only one with a closed heel, at least in her main outfit)? The rushed development shows up again here. But then you take a look at Sub-Zero's Order of Darkness skin. That shit is amazing! One of my favourite skins in the entire franchise.

I wish I could do the same and just forget MK exists. Alas, alas...

Don't be embarassed, I was just poking fun at you :p Although I'm sincerely surprised you've played it a lot more than BG3, considering how much you talk about it.

I had no idea MK1 was bad, that's a shame :/

Oh, I know, but I wish I hadn't put as many hours as I did into MK 1. At the same time, I wish I had put in a lot more hours 😬 I played this game obsessively since launch for the first month, then a little less on the second. I waited 17 years for my favourite character to return, and while her new story is garbage, the gameplay is fun, so it kept me going until I bought BG3. I talk a lot more about BG3 because I enjoy it a lot more than MK1 😅

Honestly, people who don't care much about the lore will probably have a good time with MK 1. Again, the gameplay is good (if you ignore the lack of good single-player content, of course). But what Dominic - the writer, if he can be called that - did to Ashrah pretty much severed my emotional connection with the franchise 🤷🏻‍♀️
