Betty Botter bought some butter;
put it in her biscuit batter.
“Bah!”, she said, “this butter’s bitter;
I have made my batter bitter!”
So she bought a bit o’ butter
better than the bitter butter,
put it in her bitter batter,
and the batter tasted better.
amazingly, we learned a DIFFERENT version of this one by heart as kids

So she bought some better butter
And she put the better butter in the bitter batter
And it made the bitter batter better!
The Wikipedia page has a number of different versions listed ... all different, and none quite like either of ours!
it's not too surprising there are variations, we're more surprised it's common enough for anyone else to have heard of at all :D
