I also work on a site that is small, but has an outsized influence. Depending on the day there are 6-8 people on staff almost all of whom are part time. Most relevantly it's also a site where most of the value is derived from its vibes.

There's an anxious sense of ownership people get when they find something they like inside the capitalist hellscape. It's this Sword of Damocles that on one hand keeps you honest, but on the other cedes control to people not actually working on the product and who may or may not actually know what they're talking about.

I hope Staff are able to shield themselves appropriately from loud but incorrect users before it does irreparable damage to their wellbeing.

in reply to @SPNKr's post:

just read a comment containing "[...] cohost could have been a better social media experience [...]" like, past tense, as if twitter imploding and massive influx of users was the endgame of the roadmap as opposed to an unexpected source of unimaginable stress that's been handled extremely impressively all things considered

There's a weirdo sense of "more users = more better" that a lot of people have (possibly thanks to twitter (probably thanks to twitter)).

Like if you're running a day care and suddenly there are 600 more toddlers in your building that's not a Good Thing.

Kill the VC in your head I guess?
