I think a lot about the legal gymnastics used to justify various bans on knives in the United States when compared to guns. Knifes are clearly weapons and tools useful in warfare, which is a well agreed upon part of what the second amendment is talking about when it refers to "arms". There's obviously a lot of intersecting reasons that knife bans don't get the same sort of scrutiny and protections as gun bans. Depressingly included in that list are just "well it's what gang members use in films" and good ol American Racism. And like, man, I just want to buy myself a nice fun butterfly knife to flip around and open boxes one handed. Absurd that I can buy an assault rifle but oops, what if I stab someone? Absurd country.
