My Steam Deck stopped working with my monitor after its latest update, so I looked into updating the firmware on the monitor to see if that would fix things. But unfortunately, the updater only works on bare metal Windows by connecting a full size DisplayPort cable to a discrete GPU. I use the monitor almost exclusively with my MacBook and only sometimes with my Steam Deck, and the few devices in my house which DO run Windows aren't suitable. I have an old ThinkPad and a NUC which have Mini DisplayPort connectors on the motherboard, which won't work since they don't have discrete GPUs. I have a Windows 10 VM on my server with a GPU passed through to it, but that small level of abstraction is just enough of a problem that it won't permit the update. I also have a Windows VM on my MacBook, but obviously that's a no-go. So I have no way to update my monitor because Dell made very reductive assumptions about who would be using their monitors and did not consider anyone else. This would all be solved if they just allowed updating by loading a file onto a USB drive, but nope, only people with Windows-only gaming desktops are allowed to use their products, I guess.

This is what I mean when I say Windows exclusivity sucks ass, even though people look at me like I have two heads when I say so.
