Sure, Looney Tunes established the formula that people tend to associate with it, but it still paints with broad enough of a brush with its cast who have done just about everything in every genre over the years that it’s not as focused. (This has absolutely happened with some Animaniacs spinoffs too, but nowhere near to the same extent)
Animaniacs is like a more streamlined and focused reimagining of that same initial concept of a wacky slapstick cartoon sketch comedy, throwing out everything that doesn’t contribute to that core aesthetic that people have come to know as a “toon”. Because of that, I think it’s the best show out there to define the concept.
