Nothing interesting

I'm still pissed off that most countries make it impossible for people to get COVID-19 vaccines even annually, let alone twice a year — or, for economic reasons, literally can't afford to.

We've been producing these shots for years! We should scale production up!

I learned last night that in the UK the updated boosters for the current variants are only available to people over age 65 or with certain health conditions and that’s so insane to me like these aren’t precious at this point and we never treated the flu shot this way it’s like governments are actively deciding to stop doing standard public health practices out of spite

(I agree with the previous two posts, to be clear. It is fucked that public health has devolved to this garbage standard. The following thoughts are a tangent to that very salient point)

The Canadian province I live in has a very specific list of what chronic illnesses make you "sick enough" to be eligible for more regular COVID vaccines. The last round, my spouse and I just lied on the form. It was never checked against our health records and we weren't asked any further questions by the nurse administering the vaccine (we did a little bit of looking at the list to be prepared to lie more in person, if pushed).

So, not to get anyone in trouble, but to give permission if needed: you should maybe lie and get vaccinated more.

Of course not. Canada has been trying its goddamn hardest to pivot to being an entirely resource extraction and "knowledge"/services economy for the past eighty years, and it's… …pathetic. ☠️

in reply to @shel's post:

You can get a vaccine under 65 here if... you're a care worker.

The Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunisation are the group that decide who "deserves" vaccines, and the only metric they've ever cared for is direct deaths caused by COVID. I hate it here. They increased the age for free flu vaccines too.
