Nothing interesting

The sad truth about the Big Finish Doctor Who audio stories is that on average, they are mediocre. The plots are trite, the villain uninteresting and the henchman seem to be payed extra based on how much of a dick they can be. Some of these problems are inherited from Classic Who (which I love, but you know, lots of bad part in it) but on top of that, you can really feel that these stories where written by a group of mostly white british man. That feeling is most present when they try to tackle serious theme. I don't want to add CW to this post so I'll just say: It boils down to many instances of using awful material in a cavalier way, as if you thought these awful things where just material for fiction and not real thing. The racism of the tv show is still present, but where that manifested and still manifest in the form of imperialist propaganda, they add a dose of "political correctness gone mad" to the sauce for an infuriating result.
But. but. When they strike out, they make some of the best Doctor Who stories ever written. Holy Terror. The Reaping. Spare Parts. Jubilee. People praise Project: Lazarus for good reasons, but I really like the 2000's supernatural thriller vibe of Project: Twilight. The Natural History of Fear. I still think some stories are not as good as people say (I thought Thicker than Water was boring and I have mixed feelings about The Chimes of Midnight), but I can't deny that there is some real gold hidden among the trash.
