pumped to get my brain scrambled by puzzles and philosophy this weekend
First off, the dlc is split up into 3 completely disconnected parts for some reason. In general I'd rather have a single large dlc where everything is tied together somehow, but that's not a huge deal.
I finished the first part and I'm just not a huge fan of a lot of the puzzles. Many of them involved the most fiddly and unintuitive laser mechanics, some used multiple times with insignificant iterations on the concept. One of them I walked into, took a look at for a minute and said "nope, fuck this, i'm skipping it" - something I've never done with Talos before.
The most disappointing part so far, however, is the writing. It's just... not very interesting. Maybe I'm expecting too much after the masterpiece that was Road to Gehenna (the dlc for Talos I), but this seems weak even compared to base Talos II. Thus far the majority has been either unconnected book snippets from various authors, or voiceover from a lovesick android. It all feels very flat. In contrast, Road to Gehenna managed to craft an entire community in existential crisis, kept it varied and interesting the whole way and made it believable all while subtly integrating the philosophy in an organic way.
I'm hoping the first part is an outlier and that the others have more care put into them, otherwise I'm going to be very disappointed.
