it is unbelievably funny watching companies attempt to Brand something that is just plain undesirable. they are forced to make you aware of a thing they've been doing for eons that nobody would ever say yes to if asked. there's no way to make anyone say yes without lying but they aren't allowed to lie, so there's just no way out that doesn't make them look incredibly bad. i'm honestly shocked we didn't see something this clumsy a lot sooner, it's like a sitcom character trying to invent a lie on the spot, in that unique TV way that makes the viewer go "wait, why would anyone buy a story that was presented like that, even if it made sense?" this is the steamed hams of gdpr warnings
