First time properly, too!
And until my partner pointed it out, boy did I not realise just how much it was a visual novel lmfao, lots of time with hands off the controller.
Not to mention its an Isekai as well. I can never look at this game the same way again :'3
Liking the whole quick swapping party membs in battle and they all have things they're good against, mostly! Also won the mandatory blitzball game, gaming
Won't be as wordy this time around, but I'm done with FFX now~
Gameplay
Very mixed bag after 30-40 hours. The swapping is neat in concept but in execution? God battles are a slog swapping everyone in to make sure they get full xp and longer fights just... weren't engaging to me? No ATB meant no pressure, I could sit and think about what to do as long as I wanted and unless you power level some encounters are just too beefy so they take ages. It took a lot of the enjoyment out of it for me knowing i'd be stuck in a fight for 10 minutes. The end game however, what a different ball game! If you love grinding, holy shit it'll grind your dick clean off with how much there is, TOO MUCH even. The superboss content is pretty hefty but if you over grind there is kinda no challenge x3 But the monster capturing and fighting souped up enemies was pretty fun along with the Dark Aeons! Made the slog kinda worth for a few hours I guess?
Story
For a game that is essentially a visual novel/anime in a game form, the story is pretty good?I've known about this one for a long time before playing it but stepping back and looking at it as a whole, while it mostly only focuses on Tidus, Yuna and Auron for the majority you get to learn about what Zanarkand is in both reality and dream in regards to Spira and Sin. The fact that Tidus is a part of the fayth's wish to end the cycle and if he succeeds, he will vanish cause he's a dream and not real.
I also like the parallel of the first half of the game, Yuna lies to Tidus about things, only for him to do it in turn for the latter half once he learns the truth.
And I guess Wakka defeats the racism in himself, that's pretty cool :'3 (if you talk to him before fighting sin, anyway and ONLY at that time will he discuss it.)
