A game barely anyone played, and the few that did just rejected it as a worse All Stars Racing Transformed. While I personally did like it, and enjoyed the cooperative part of the game, today however I wanted to talk about the absolute banger this OST is for no fucking reason. Let's start with the first track of the game:
Let's forget about the fact that the first track would be Crush 40's Green Light Ride, that while being a good song, it's not one of Crush 40's best. Though I would recommend you to listen to it if you haven't already.
Anyways, this song up here isn't even one of my favorites. But holy shit, yeah? Lets go absolutely hard for a racing game's track. Not only its a generally well made song, it references the place where it's being played with those Planet Wisp first notes with the guitar at the chorus. And that sax suddenly coming out of nowhere and stealing all the spotlights??
This game's soundtrack was given so much care and effort, especially for a racing game. Most of the songs reference beloved songs from Sonic's history, and every track "world" has 3 different yet similar songs made just for this game.
But anyways, that's just the first song that you will hear. If we look ahead, we can get to hear absolute bangers like this one:
I will not get tired of saying the game didn't need to go THIS hard for it's soundtrack. Like, holy shit, that guitar?? The bass, killing it??? That keyboard was likely on fire at the time of recording???? This soundtrack doesn't miss.
But wait, there's more. Not only every single racetrack song is a banger. Every stage has 4, four songs for it. A ~20 second intro before the race begins, a goal jiggle, the actual song, and a final lap version. For every. single. stage.
And the final lap versions aren't just speed-ups. The team wanted to go beyond, giving us full on remixes of the regular tracks (most of the time). For example, this one right here is the regular track for the volcano map (just listening to the intro will get you the idea):
But uh oh, it's final lap time, let's get serious. The song transforms into this faster, definitely more intense feeling that perfectly fits what a last lap song should be:
Like, yeah, it's the same song, but in a totally different way. The team didn't need to do this, but they did it anyways! This soundtrack sure makes you forget how mid the game actually gets to be.
And things with final lap versions don't end there. Here, we have the "above the clouds" sunset stage, Sky road. Which is an absolute banger:
But you just got into that final lap. The regular track stops, then this little fella starts playing:
Jesus fucking christ. While the regular track's intro was an all happy anime opening, the first 20 seconds of this one go so absolutely hard it's trying to give you an actual heart attack.
But speaking of things that go absolutely hard for no apparent reason. Time to show you my favorite track. We all know how full of bangers Sonic Heroees is, right? Do you remember the casino's world, second stage? Yeah, I'm talking about Bingo Highway:
This song is everything a Bingo Highway remix could ever dream of. The guitar going extremely hard just for it to give way for the bingo sounding keyboard swinging from note through note in a crazy pattern, perfectly encapsulating that frenzy casino feeling.
Oh, but you should know by now.
There's a final lap version.
It can get better.
This track is so absolutely fire the game is actively trying to burn my house down. Literal adrenaline injected through your headphones. This soundtrack is singlehandedly making you think the race you're playing is the most intense shit you have ever experienced in your entire life. Again, it would be nice if the game itself was actually fun to play.
Anyways, that's all I wanted to talk about for today. However, honorary mention to Clockwork Pyramid's track, although a simple track compared to the others, it's also one of my favorites.
