"pete buttigieg is just a faggot" applies to abdl too. if you're not concerned about this i recommend changing your mind before it's your turn.
first hypno, now ABDL. Patreon can't just go after all kink or all adult work in general right NOW because they know we'll pitch a fit about it-- we have in the past, we can again. but if they keep trimming around the edges and shrinking the circle of What's Acceptable, then eventually they can lessen the impact when they do enact a blanket ban on NSFW stuff. or they can just keep a very, very narrow vanilla definition of sexual content on their site so they can SAY that they still welcome adult work, technically.
it consistently drives me nuts that so many sites and services online build momentum through providing a service to adult content creators, but then treat those creators like garbage whenever they need to look "respectable", to investors or CC processors or whoever. this attitude creates a weird dichotomy where porn is seen as this easy industry to get ahead in-- everyone wants it! it's easy to make! and it's disposable, so there's no need to try and make it good!-- but it actually requires this crushing grindset mentality. you need to raise enough attention to get fans, but not SO much attention that the moderation team on whatever sites you're advertising on notices, all while constantly looking over your shoulder for the next tidal wave on the horizon.
the big reason i've continued to post my comics and art on Patreon is because of name recognition-- it's way easier to get people to sign up to your subscriber-only blog if they already have an account and they don't need to learn how to navigate a new website-- but if this is indicative of a trend, or even if enough people SEE it as a trend to start leaving en masse, i'll have to start exploring other options. it's annoying and it sucks, but it's The Business.
also this is why i pay $5 a month for Cohost Plus, because Cohost is kind to its pornographers
