@spiders' contribution to the world this month was getting the Boops boops page locked for repeatedly changing the caption on an image from "A specimen in a bucket" to "Boops boops in a bucket"

@iliana

there is a single wikipedia editor who has reverted the "Boops boops in a bucket" change repeatedly over the past year and a half, including a revert of an admin's edit, and who is the same one who requested the page locking, because apparently this one person can decide to put up a "no fun allowed" sign

if i had the energy i would continue poking the wasp's nest on a more formal dispute resolution page, because i really dislike these kinds of situations where a single wikipedian gets a little too involved in removing a fun cutesy thing, but i just cannot be assed to deal with wikipedian bureaucracy. so instead spiders is just going to get themself and probably most of comcast's seattle IP ranges banned for continuing to change the caption every few months when they remember to check it

After a Request for Comment, the Wikipedia community has determined that "Boops boops in a bucket" is the correct caption for that image.

here it is, in all its glory

I've been debating this for days but I just don't know. With no car, no money for a down payment on a new one, just enough money for rent and any food the leftovers I can get from work... any help or spare change people can toss our way just to make it through one more week would be helpful. I don't even care if people learn my deadname.

buy cds. buy music downloads (maybe? i'm not sure actually if digital music sales on like itunes and amazon mp3 have the same impact as buying cds). pirate music. if you don't have space to store music locally and want to stream, make sure you pick a service that actually pays artists fairly.
tidal reportedly pays reasonably good royalties on streams, but i've read that qobuz (https://www.qobuz.com) pays four cents per stream to artists, which from my own research appears to be massively above what any other platform's paying.

notably, you should avoid spotify.

an imperfect measure but the easiest one for me to quickly get together.

included is a chart counting the number of times per [interval]1 that the "make a new post" API route was called over the last 7 days. included is a rolling trend group to detect anomalies; we use a similar technique for warning about higher than average site usage, as this can occasionally cause issues2.

you will note that there is a very large anomaly yesterday evening, at a time when posting is usually starting to wind down for the night. you'll never guess what happened to cause this.

  1. not 100% sure what it is at this zoom level but it's not especially relevant to the point

  2. this used to be a much bigger problem before we changed a lot about how posts were rendered. frontpage on HN was enough to cause serious perf issues back then
