@deafhobbit asked:

do you know if we'll be able to log in to cohost once it is set to read only?

I've seen lots of people saying mutuals can find their contact info from their profile links. would be nice to know if that will still work once the Posting ends.

yeah. PREVIEW OF HOW WE ARE IMPLEMENTING READ ONLY MODE:

we’ve had a “permission” setup for a while that set your account to read only. it was used to put users in timeout when they weren’t doing anything bad enough for a ban but still needed to chill for a bit.

we’re currently doing an audit to ensure that nothing can slip through this permission. on october 1, we will bulk assign it to all users.

all site functionality that doesn’t involve changing or creating things will remain.

ADDITIONALLY: the data exports include a “find your friends” page which is a unified set of profile contact links for everyone you followed. we want to make that part easy.

Before I get into the meat of this I'll list where you can currently find me:

https://rebarabbit.dreamwidth.org/ - New DREAMWIDTH account. I've begun fixing things up here in preparation of posting my stories once they're edited. I've also posted my current model sheet there already. This, from what I can tell at present, WILL be where my stories find their home. My art is another issue, and I'll likely have to find a separate gallery site for my art, as Dreamwidth has a 50 mb limit on total image uploads.

https://bsky.app/profile/rebarabbit.bsky.social - BLUESKY that I just got!!! Will be using this after the end of the month for a "social media" purpose. Will also be able to keep up with wherever I and my writing/art end up here.

https://www.deviantart.com/rebarabbit - I likely won't be uploading anything to DA ever but if you want to keep up with where I am this may help.

https://picarto.tv/HappyRoadkill/profile - I've toyed with the idea of doing art streams in the future, and while those would be quite a ways off, this is the most likely location for those streams.

https://www.twitch.tv/rebarabbit - Less likely but still possible future gaming streams would happen here if anyone is interested.

https://www.furaffinity.net/user/rebaroadkillrabbit/ - I've decided to not upload my stories here in the short term as planned due to FA's new policy banning ABDL. I made a more direct post about this but the gist of it is; while my stories and art wouldn't be affected by this at all (not my bag), who's to say they wouldn't put other bans in place in the future that would affect my work? And more importantly, I don't really want to give cover for this kind of ridiculous behavior from the new folks running FA by uploading things there. This creates a bit of a bigger issue regarding where I'm going to upload my art, however, as bluesky compresses images worse than I'VE ever been! I'll think on that a bit more, but for now FA will remain a place where I can post messages about where my work WILL be able to be found.

!!There may well be more links added here, I'll update this if so!!

ALSO. If we're mutuals and you'd like to add me on Discord, send me an ask.

Now on to the meat of this.

i had written this up a few nights ago and deleted it bcuz it felt like, rambly and incoherent, but before cohost goes down for good i really do wanna say that like, the environment it bred for porn and erotic art did feel very unique. i dont really go out of my way to look at porn anymore, drawn or otherwise, because so very much of it is heavily informed by the tropes of an industry that is all but designed to reinforce heterosexual male-centric sexual experiences. things that are coated in sexualized shame and disgust, that promote and reinforce every unhealthy idea about sex that society force feeds us from day one. but here, divorced from the numbers game, in an environment where there's no benefit to playing into all those popular tropes, i feel like there was a lot more room for erotic art that felt like sincere expressions of desire and sexuality.

not to say there wasn't any like, disembodied dicks surrounding an anime woman declaring that her only purpose in life is to service cock, but there was plenty of other stuff, and i saw artists ive followed for years start to experiment and try new things with how they expressed themselves. there was a lot more stuff that felt like it was really celebrating sex, reveling in the beauty of it, and the one thing i hope is that a little of that is carried into other spaces once cohost is gone for good.

I’ve talked about this at length within several friend groups and the general consensus is also that the way porn is consumed on other sites is vastly different than here.
Mainly, the big one being Twitter, there’s a numbers game adding into how it’s consumed. Artists become Brand Names and the Brand Names gotta play nice with the masses that make their Numbers. Within these Big Numbers, come Trends and those trends have turned into a circle jerk of shame about being horny, shame over more fringe kinks, sexualizing the shame, sex is scandalous and taboo no matter how blasé or extreme the kinks are.
It is a constantly churning machine of “god I’m such a horny freak for this”, whatever the this turned out to be.

Here though, there was freedom from that, sex and kink for the sake of enjoyment, absent of algorithm, organic exploration. It was nice. It was so, so nice.

I’ll miss this.

This is one of the only platforms that I've seen lesbian content made for lesbians do well

It's also the only place I've been able to post such content and my comments section is filled with women expressing admiration and desire, not their usual short responses being buried by horny men

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that a wide range of individuals resonate strongly with my work. But this is a platform where my desire and admiration in the art felt seen and not just "consumed"

It's the biggest thing I'm going to miss from CoHost and it's one of the few things I genuinely don't have a decent replacement for.

I'm going to miss being able to post "low poly characters are hot" and be met with genuine enthusiasm rather than half baked platitudes, overbearing horniness or confusion

For the record I've found bluesky and masto at least a lot better with this, and I think it's mostly a Twitter culture problem, but I do not think either is as good as CoHost for genuine positive sexual expression

I'm still going to try my best though with how positive I know the response can be now from here
