never before have i been so captivated by a game that is dogshit as i have with castlevania 64 to be honest. incredibly fascinating game that i never want to play ever again

returning to this post after poking at legacy of darkness (64's prequel + remake??) and just thinking "man there absolutely is a Good Game in this duology that's buried under middling design decisions. these are games that are trying too hard to Be Something They Aren't."

like, chop out all the faux-survival horror game puzzling and keep legacy of darkness' game-feel improvements, slotting the gameplay style into normal castlevania levels and i think the game would just CLICK and a lot more people would be down with what its presenting.

you can easily keep much of the combat design the same, just, if these levels were linear affairs a la rondo or cv 1-4, i think it could easily be a dark horse contender for a favorite of mine??

im glad you gave it a whirl. the part where you have to navigate the castle without juMping or being hit (because you're carrying nitroglycerin) is a real highlight aka hell on earth. it's a fucken nightmare game
