Been meaning to ask for this for a while but I've been wanting to read more recently and was wondering if folks I follow have books or series (shorter the better, I have enough Gargantuan Series to churn through as is) that they wanna recommend!

depending on how much you’re into shit like underground Las Vegas magicians dealing with cataclysmic events along with demonic incursions and whatnot, I’d look at the first three (?) Daniel Faust books by Craig Schaefer, or the Harmony Black books by the same author if you want a (slightly) more law abiding take with an FBI agent getting roped into a supernatural task force
granted these both did end up as a Huge Series intertwined with the other characters story in the same universe and also a bunch of characters from a parallel universe (with their own four book series) AND parallels of those characters but still. they’re fun reads and feature a lot of queer rep as a nice bonus. it sounds confusing when I explain it like complete shit but it’s not so bad
gory as books go though, if that sort of thing is an issue. lots of people get smeared
This is How You Lose the Time War; Mortal Engines and The Cyberiad by Stanislaw Lem; Most else I read is academiese or obtuse...
i liked the 7 1/2 deaths of evelyn hardcastle and the eighth detective a lot (wacky meta mystery liker here)
