Hi, I'm Reed! (26 - she/her- pan/polyam) Video games, model kits, film, music, the works!

I'm also a VTuber over on Twitch!

Moo.

weird question but can one use Plex as a sort of catch-all media player? like, not even for streaming to other devices (at first at least, and it'd only be to devices in the same house if anything) but just to put all my video media in one spot. i feel like it SHOULD be possible but i don't know enough about the program or how to use it to know exactly what to search for

in reply to @Reedrill's post:

you can set up different libraries in it, and it has options for “movies”, “tv”, or “other videos”; the first two are kind of presets with common options for those two types, and the last one just displays videos as is, more or less— so it’s definitely doable, altho depending on how complicated your video library is it may or may not work for what you want

oh! so i more meant as like, a general idea— the libraries just work by you assigning certain folders to them. so all you really need to setup is however you want the actual video folders organized, whether that’s meticulous folders or just a bunch of movies in one folder and a bunch of tv shows in the other.

the nice thing is you can set a library to contain multiple folders, in case you think you might want to, in the future, like, keep youtube videos separate from movies or keep some content only available on certain accounts— it makes it easier for later
