I read Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher with my spouse for the second time, and I recommend it as a mostly good Leftist theory text. It’s short and mostly accessible, although the language does get a little head-in-assy at a few points.
There’s some bits in there re: mental illness that are pretty questionable and kinda bad, but not damning of the whole text.
Fisher stops short of prescribing solutions to the dominance of capital and the impotence of the Left, but he does good work in helping articulate the totalizing, seemingly inescapable grasp of capitalism over our collective consciousness.
