One thing people need to remember in discussions of "empathy", broadly, is that people with no innate sense of empathy are still entirely capable of not just having coherent, good ethical frameworks, but also of actively, consciously showing others compassion and care.

Also, you can use high empathy to manipulate and harm people. "Empathy" doesn't mean "being good to people." It just means being able to imagine and understand how other people think and feel.
