thinking about how most of my social awkwardness comes from a weird interruption hangup I have where I find it near impossible to continue talking if someone is speaking at the same time. It's not just politeness, I just find it very difficult to continue talking if I'm trying to listen to someone else in parallel to myself and 9 times out of 10 I stop talking, let the other person speak and discard what would've been my contribution to the conversation as it moves on without me.
The end result is being unintentionally quiet and also being arbitrarily better friends with people who either do the same thing I do or pause in their speech enough for me to get a word in, and worse friends with people who speak a lot
