Every time some pirate streaming site goes down I have to see people making comments about how bad it is for “preservation” to lose a site with watermarked content it doesn’t let you download. People should just say they’re sad to lose the site where they watch stuff for free instead of trying to launder their concern into something more “serious”. Or learn to torrent

i wonder if people don't just mean "access" when they say "preservation". it certainly would be congruent with the thing where people call known-extant-but-inaccessible works lost
