Bleen and I have been spoiled for choice on good anime this past season, but the one that surprised us the most was Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch. I will freely admit, we initially tossed this in our Maybe pile because the preview was Tall Witch With Huge Rack. And the first episode did play into some cringe-worthy tropes around that, but those very quickly fell away and caught us off-guard with how sweet and charming and incredibly stupid this show actually is. But also it is kept surprising us with how weirdly mature it would be about some of the subject matter; it has episodes that are genuinely earnest and well-versed on good sleep habits, or how healthy living and weight are not actually connected, or how not to be a creep towards women, all while still being, and I must emphasize this, very very stupid. It's also weirdly kink-forward in a number of ways without really being horny about it at all, which feels like its own triumph. It's a bizarre show, but we really enjoyed it and are gonna miss it after we wrapped up the season tonight.
