We lost one of the all-time greats. He directed, produced, or acted in more than 300 movies and helped launch the careers of Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Joe Dante, James Cameron, Ron Howard, Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, William Shatner, and countless others.

To celebrate his legacy, here's The Little Shop of Horrors, which he shot in less than a week for about $30,000.

There is perhaps no distinction more noteworthy that a filmmaker's contributions to cinema are too numerous to comprehend than Wikipedians fully giving up when faced with the prospect of enumerating his full filmography. It's truly bananas how many careers crossed paths with his, whether at the acting or the directing level. Just take a look at some of the directors on the "Producer Only" list and see if you don't recognize a few names. It feels impossible for anyone making films today to provide so many springboards over so many decades.
