please go yell at them to do the right thing for once over here
this is a direct line to yell at the government, on a real government website, and not a dumb third party online petition site that accomplishes nothing but inbox spam.1 this is the real deal and you can help make a difference by commenting! you don't even have to give them any information if you select the option to comment anonymously.2
there is no reason not to yell at the government about this if you are a US resident and would like people to not go to jail over a plant. at the time of this writing over 6,000 comments have been published overwhelmingly in favor of legalization3 and this is only a week into a 60 day period for commenting.
yelling at the government is free and this is a direct way to have your voice be heard, so yell at them today and let them know where you stand!

look i know we have all made the mistake of being a dumb, well-intentioned teenager signing that change dot org petition in high school and still getting political spam emails decades later. thankfully, you don't have to worry about that here!
-
and if you do choose to include your name, that is literally the ONLY required information. you do not have to include anything else - no address, no phone number, no email address if you don't want to! you don't even have to include the state you live in.
-
to give you an idea of how overwhelming that favor is, the percentage of commenters in favor of keeping weed illegal is a measly 3%. the war on drugs is a loser's game and everyone knows it lol
I went ahead and put myself as non-anonymous, all that requires is your name. You don’t have to put your state or zip code if you choose not to while not being anonymous.
Edit: Oh my god the original post had this info and I just brain-fogged past it
Oh BOY the DEA wants to hear from the people? Good chance they've robbed someone that's commenting about this: there's a certainty that some of the people they've stolen from cannot comment- because they're sitting in a hole in the wall for trying to make rent.
How audacious of the Government to ask our opinion on this, while they sit on millions that they've stolen in their crusade against a plant. Not to mention the THOUSANDS of incarcerated people that will still be serving time; over what will legally be equivalent to being prescribed a bottle of Tylenol. I suggest not only rescheduling Cannabis to schedule 3, but perhaps some reparations for the damages caused by the DEA over their entire tenure as a government entity.
While I sound rather angry and cynical about the Government finally thinking about giving in, (During an election year) I'm actually quite pleased to know they are thinking. Meanwhile we have chemical engineers, biomedical engineers, doctors, and even spiritual leaders (people who think very well) simply waiting for the moment our leadership can put two brain cells together so we can actually gather research on a simple plant.
The prohibition of cannabis was a fun idea, I'll admit. I'll put on my tin foil cap and presume it was a social experiment to see how stressed people will get after a hundred years without a plant that's been medicinally used for THOUSANDS OF YEARS. Yeah, it's out there, but it's much easier to swallow than the truth that Cannabis was originally outlawed as an excuse to arrest Mexican folk. Then it was propagandized against black folk and jazz musicians.
Historically (in the short time it has been illegal) marijuana has been used as a bargaining chip for prejudice against the people The American Government deems dangerous, lazy, or unwanted.
Eventually, I would like the stigma around Cannabis to be that of antiquity: when Emperors swore by it and the disabled had some relief.
I believe I've angered myself out at this point, and brought up all the points I'd like to make. Y'all can't just say that Cannabis is the same level as Tylenol without pardoning a LOT of people, it's a slap in the face of everyone who's been under the knee of a cop. It's amazing y'all haven't thought of this before, when you've had smart people shouting for the LEGALIZATION of Cannabis for a century. A century which was but a drop in the bucket compared against its use as a medicine since the dawn of civilization. Although I'm angry that I've never seen a time that Cannabinoids were legal when it has been evolutionarily adapted to countless species on earth; I'm elated to hear that my Government wants to hear from the people, for the people. Maybe we can reestablish trust with the Government and our leaders THIS way. I would love more opportunities to give my opinion as well as my vote, and I hope this is the start of that.
