@Ryyudo asked:

I got some insight into who you think who is best two; who do you think are the worst two in Street Fighter 6 currently?

(for context to Ryyudo's question for anyone who isn't aware, I basically put Juri as best character in the game at the moment, with Luke as a viable alternative, because they're both really strong overall.)

right so the tiers are super compressed in this game and that's what makes this question hard to answer for me. everyone feels viable in some sort of way.

but, with some thought...

  • zangief is currently not having a good time. on the one hand, he does the grappler thing really good; SPD is great and snagging people's limbs with it is really good. drive rushes really open up a lot for him. so on, so forth. on the other hand, it feels like they hyperfocused a lot of his striking options in ways that don't serve him well. I joked about how Zangief players tend to complain almost exclusively about how bad his oki is but the more common complaints are things like lariat inconsistencies and how it's generally hard to make his strikes work into other gameplay plans without really committing, and I can kind of see that. he is still a really scary character, but there are some inconsistencies he still has to deal with that kind of mess with him.

actually i'm not really sure if i have a second person i'd put as "worst" really. lily maybe? and even then i feel like with her it's more that she just demands a lot of comfort with knowing the system mechanics than it is that she's even "bad", lily player complaints be damned. windclad lily is one of the scariest things to deal with in SF6, and her pokes are really strong. she isn't super mobile, true, but you have drive rush and proper uses of condor spire/dive to work around that, and those in turn open up the threat of getting hit by mexican typhoon.

in reply to @SJHDoesGames's post:

Yeah, I can see that. My main thing is mostly that players who are really patient and really good at conditioning will probably have an easier time of it with Lily than Gief tends to have in general because she can compensate with really strong pokes and messing with people by using Condor Spire and Condor Dive really carefully. Gief mostly has to Drive Rush and his pokes aren't as scary in my experience.

This is why I was like "it's a hard question", and honestly even if she is the weakest character the tiers feel compressed enough atm that it functionally doesn't matter a lot as of yet. Everyone has an angle they can work in this game.

Agreed. There isn't a stark contrast in top tier vs bottom tier like we saw with SF2X and 3rd Strike. Not to mention characters like Jamie who aren't great at first, but can became an S-tier character mid-match.
