I can assure you as a long-experienced tabletop RPG player: sometimes there is no context that explains it, it really just comes down to "Well it seemed like a good idea at the time..." so often.
love the idea of you as a character in their game just showing up once in a while whenever you walk by the table, checking in on the party and offering snacks while offering color commentary
