It encourages dialogue for the sake of dialogue. There is literally no concept of a ratio on cohost. So there's no dunking for points. No cheap spite based dopamine infusion. It's part of the design that's fostering good faith discussion here, and I love that.
It's one of the reasons why I'm leaning more and more towards not seeing numbers being a good thing, because the people who interact on my posts want to, and aren't motivated by a large number that says 'everyone else is, so you should too'. Or more specifically 'hey if you disagree with this, you can comment and 'prove' via more likes and replies that you are right and this person you've never spoken to once in your life is wrong.'
Couple that with no algorithm driven suggestions and you notice scrolling a full feed of updates isn't that bad, it's all stuff you actively follow and can opt in/out of posting on without fomo.
