it's a firefox fork and they're keeping out all the garbage mozilla has. no tracking, no pocket, no ai nonsense, etc.
by default it's set to use high privacy settings, but if you decide you don't care (they are extra strict privacy settings that break a couple website features), there's a whole settings menu to turn many important things on or off, and plenty of documentation on the website.
since it comes with ublock origin and the settings menu is quite easy to get to, i think it's even a good browser recommendation for non-tech people.
because it's based on firefox, you get benefits like
- firefox extensions (no manifest v3 problems)
- RFP, the strongest browser privacy tooling available. this is most of what the tor browser uses.
- barely any ram usage even at 1500 tabs (yes, this is how i use my browser)
- browser cache files don't grow to billions of gigabytes and leave you writhing trying to figure out why your hard drive is full
also just me but the firefox web engine supports various little things that i never see anyone mention but i have found incredibly useful:
- you can override the refresh rate of animations to get high framerates in web games or even just smoother animation in case the browser doesn't detect the monitor properly
- disabling autoplay allows more things that should be allowed than chrome does
- i think audio latency is better i don't remember
i would instantly perish if i were ever forced to switch back to chromium or even any other firefox based browser
