PSA: have you ever wondered "what would happen if i messed up while plugging in a 44-pin IDE hard drive and got it off by one pin?" well, i have the answer:
The motherfucker explode
it blew a pin off the connector. the drive now smells like cordite but, shockingly, still works fine
it let you know it wasn't connected properly and everything works fine so it seems designed well
